Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) Class

In Colorado, a concealed carry permit is called a Concealed Handgun Permit, or CHP. Before you can submit your initial application to the sheriff, the state requires a class of at least eight hours from a verified instructor. This is that class. Terry Young is a Verified CHP Instructor through the Adams County Sheriff's Office. Under Colorado statute, verification by the sheriff of any Colorado county allows an instructor to teach CHP classes anywhere in the state, so this class supports an application in any county. The day covers safe and responsible handling, the law as it applies to...

CHP Refresher and Renewal Class

Colorado requires a refresher class of at least two hours to renew a Concealed Handgun Permit. This class satisfies that requirement. It is a shorter session aimed at permit holders who already carry: a refresh on safe handling, a review of what has changed in the law, and range time to confirm you are still shooting well. Check your permit expiration date before you book and give yourself room ahead of the renewal deadline. Contact us for the next available date.

Basics of Pistol Shooting

This is the class to take if you have never fired a handgun, if it has been years, or if you have been shooting for a while and suspect nobody ever taught you the fundamentals properly. We work through safe handling, how a pistol actually works, grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, loading and unloading, malfunctions, and safe storage, then put all of it to work on the range. No experience is assumed and no question is a dumb one. Contact us for the next available date.

Basics of Rifle Shooting

A rifle is a different tool from a handgun and it rewards a different set of fundamentals. This class covers safe handling, how the rifle works, the shooting positions, sight picture, trigger control, zeroing, and safe storage, followed by live fire. Suitable for the brand new rifle owner and for anyone who wants a clean foundation before moving on to more advanced work. Contact us for the next available date.

Women's Handgun and Self Defense Fundamentals

A women only class, taught at a pace that leaves room for questions. It combines handgun fundamentals with the parts of personal defense that come before the firearm: awareness, avoidance, and having a plan. Many students arrive having never touched a handgun. That is entirely normal here, and the class is built for it. Contact us for the next available date.

CPW Specified Semiautomatic Firearms Safety, Basic

Colorado now requires safety training before the purchase of specified semiautomatic firearms, meaning firearms that are gas operated, semiautomatic, and use a detachable magazine. The course requirement is administered through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. This is the basic course. If you are planning a purchase that falls under the requirement, take this before you go to the dealer, not after. Contact us for the next available date and to confirm which course you need for your situation.

CPW Specified Semiautomatic Firearms Safety, Extended

The extended version of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife specified semiautomatic firearms safety course, for students whose situation calls for the longer course rather than the basic one. If you are not sure which course applies to you, contact us before you book and we will sort it out with you. Contact us for the next available date.

Range Safety Officer

A Range Safety Officer is responsible for the safe operation of a range and for everyone standing on the line. This class covers the RSO role, range standard operating procedures, range commands, safety briefings, and how to handle the situations that actually come up. Intended for experienced shooters, club officers, and anyone who runs or helps run a range. Contact us for the next available date.

Emergency First Aid Fundamentals

Everything else we teach is about the moments before an emergency. This class is about the minutes after one, when you are the only help present. Terry has taught CPR and First Aid, Community Emergency Response Team courses, and CERT Train the Trainer. That background drives this class: practical, hands on, and aimed at what you can actually do before professional help arrives. Contact us for the next available date.

Non-Lethal Self Defense

Not every situation calls for a firearm, and not everyone wants to carry one. This class covers non-lethal self defense: awareness, avoidance, de-escalation, and the tools and techniques available when the answer is not a gun. Useful on its own and useful alongside firearms training, because most of what keeps you safe happens well before anything is drawn. Contact us for the next available date.

Advanced Training and Private Lessons

Past the fundamentals, training gets specific. Advanced pistol and marksmanship instruction is built around what you are actually trying to improve rather than a fixed syllabus. Private lessons are available for individuals and for groups. This is the right option if you want to work on one particular thing, if you would rather not learn in front of a class, or if you want to put a group of friends or family through a session together. Tell us what you want to work on and we will build the session around it. Contact us to talk it through.
